3 Things to Avoid When Building Your Business (and Not a Monster)

Halloween is well and truly over. No more nightmares or ghoulish goings-on should be happening business-wise! Maybe you’re still struggling to banish the baddies. Here are 3 things to avoid that will ensure you are building a business, and it’s not something that would give Frankenstein’s Monster a run for its money!
Don’t Suck the Soul out of the Business
Breathe life and soul into the business. Remember why you started and what you’re striving to achieve. Recently, I interviewed Peter Docker, the inspiration and positivity he exudes is incredible, he works alongside Simon Sinek helping people Find Their Why. So, what drives you? As soon as you establish exactly what it is you’re working towards, whether that’s profit expansion, a perfect work/life balance or realising the perfect retirement dreams. Now write it down. By doing this, you’ll reinvigorate the business, feel fulfilled, and be ready to accomplish amazing things.
Don’t Make a Monster Mash! Make Every Part of the Firm Brilliant
Crazy Professors make monsters in their laboratories from odd body parts and miss-match limbs – DON’T do the same. You need to ensure every part that makes up the business is the best it can possibly be. The Business Model Canvas is an incredible tool that simplifies this process offering a concise snapshot of every element of the business. By having the nerve centre, the heart and all the other parts that make up the business right in front of you, you can clearly determine what works well, what needs improving and how you can make business run efficiently and effective. Remember, you can’t build a business when the pieces don’t align!
Don’t Forget to Put Heart in Everything you Do
Put the heart back into Frankenstein’s Monster, i.e., THE BUSINESS! To achieve business success, the venture needs a heartbeat. When clients sense enthusiasm and passion, they’ll share those feelings. They will feel valued and recognize that you have genuine care for the business, the team, and them. Having heart shows commitment and dedication. One effective way to show heart is by embracing core values. Get involved along with the team in the local area and gain a grasp of what’s going on. For me, my business is in Birmingham, so I get involved in local projects, charities and initiatives. The bigger the heart is, the better! Not only will you be helping the area and raising its profile as well as helping amazing causes, but you will naturally give a boost to the business in the process. Plus, it opens doors to new prospects and contacts.
There doesn’t have to be a monstrous creation. Follow these three tips to keep business thriving and ALIVE!
